On the 1st of March 2016, Seiko’s very first Australian boutique opened its doors at the Queen Victoria Building shopping mall in Sydney CBD.
Seiko Watch Corporation’s Chief Operating Officer, Hirohiko Umemoto, came to Australia for the opening ceremony held on the 2nd of March and celebrated the opening of the boutique with 80 or so attendees including many from various media outlets.
The boutique will stock a lineup of watches that has never been sold in Australia along with some of Seiko’s most exclusive product lines, Grand Seiko. Both ‘Astron’ – the world’s first GPS solar watch ‘Astron’, and ‘Prospex’ – a brand of sports watches known for its abilities to perform in extreme conditions and underwater, will be sold at the boutique as well.
In the recent years, Seiko has been introducing boutique stores in many major cities around the world. Last year, they opened stores in Frankfurt, Moscow and Tokyo, making Sydney the 64th store to open.
‘There are many who look for fine quality watches in Australia, so there’s a strong demand for high-grade watches – we can expect great growth in the market in the future. By opening a direct sales store, we’d like to grow our brand recognition and encourage rapid growth.’ said Mr.Umemoto regarding his prospect for the Australian market.
