Winner’s Announcement

Mr. Timothy  Cushing  VIC

Ski holidays in Japan has become a staple menu item for Australian travellers, but there are still many undiscovered places around Japan. One of these hidden gems go by the name of Katashina Village.
This place is tucked away in Gunma Prefecture, just under two hours from Tokyo city.

Katashina Village is located high above sea level, and it’s home to three of Japan’s top 100 great mountains (Mt. Hotaka, Mt. Nikko Shrine and Mt. Shibutsu) so you can expect some spectacular mountain views throughout the year.

Because of its location, the village experiences heavy snow fall in the winter, which is rare for the Kanto region. Also thanks to the snow that comes over the Echigo Mountains, you can expect quality, dry powder snow at any of the five ski resorts in the area, including White World Oze-Iwakura Ski Resort and Marunuma-Kogen Ski Resort.

Katashina Village has so much to offer beyond its quality powder too. The mountainous, nature-rich conditions that the village sits in results in an abundance of high quality spring water and fresh produces, which visitors can enjoy at the village’s local eateries. The village also has many natural hot springs to relax in après ski.

All of these amazing offerings can only be truly understood through experience, so Katashina Village invites you to enter the Discover Katashina’s Snow and Beyond Giveaway!
Enter now for your chance to win a trip for yourself and a friend! All you need to do is to answer our survey on this page and wish for luck.

Marunuma Kogen Ski Resort

A combination of quality powder, gorgeous views and longer snow season makes Marunuma Kogen a skier & snowboarder’s dream. The highest point of the resort is located 2 kilometres above sea level, which means that the snow stays longer than the others.

Katashina Kogen Ski Resort

This ski resort is the only place in the Kanto region that is exclusive for skiers. If you are a first time skier or have a great passion for skiing and skiing only, this is the place to go! Complete with kid-friendly areas in the resort, everyone in the family can enjoy their time in the snow here.

Snow Park Oze Tokura

Snowboarders must check this place out. Snow Park Oze Tokura is known as the pioneer of snowboard parks and it is home to closest super half-pipe to Tokyo. There are plenty of other fun features here for snowboarders including plenty of kickers and jibs.

Oguna Hotaka Ski Resort

Oguna Hotaka Ski Resort expands from Mt. Hotaka at just over 1,800 metres above sea level. The longest run here is 3.5 kilometres on the Hotaka Sky Way, where you can take in the views of the surrounding area down a long run.

THE GREEN SEASON AT KATASHINA VILLAGE

Once spring sets in, a greener Katashina Village is revealed from under the snow. From a pristine white scenery to a green and colourful one, the entire village transform from season to season – with cherry blossoms in the spring and changing leaves in autumn.

The Oze National Park is one of the must visit spots for the green season. Marshlands that are decorated with seasonal flowers and an abundance of nature makes this the perfect place for hiking.

Over at Lake Sugenuma, which is known for the clearest water in the main island of Japan, you can take stand up paddle board tours of the lake and take in the surrounding scenery from a unique point of view.

The village is in a very convenient location to reach Nikko city. Just an hour out of the village will land you in the world heritage listed Nikko Toshogu Shrine. This shrine is located within Nikko city, and it is the head shrine of all 130 or so of the Toshogu shrines across the nation. It is also where Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the last Shogunate that ruled Japan for 250 years, is buried.

Katashina Village is a great place to get active and enjoy the great outdoors, no matter what time of year.
